The Rich Man

As He was setting out on a journey a man run up and knelt before Him and asked, ‘Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?’ Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. You know the Commandments: You shall not murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; You shall not defraud; Honor your father and mother.”

The man said to Jesus, ‘Teacher, I have kept these since my youth.’ Jesus looking at him loved him and said, “You lack one thing. Go, sell what you own and give the money to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven, then come follow me.”

When the man heard this he was shocked and went away grieving for he had many possessions.

Then Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, “How hard it will be for those who have wealth to enter the Kingdom of God.” The disciples were perplexed at these words but Jesus said to them again, “Children, how hard it is to enter the Kingdom of God. It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the Kingdom of God.”

The disciples were greatly astounded and said to one another, ‘Then who can be saved?’ Jesus looked at them and said, “For mortals it is impossible but not for God, for God all things are possible.”  Mark 10:17-27

People were bringing little children to Him in order that He might touch them and the disciples spoke sternly to them but when Jesus saw this He was indignant and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me do not stop them for it is to such as these that the Kingdom of God belongs. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it.” Jesus took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them and blessed them. Mark 10:13-16

Thanksgiving For God’s Goodness

Bless the Lord O my soul and all that is within me, bless His Holy name.

Bless the Lord O my soul and do not forget all His benefits–who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit (Hell) who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good as long as you live so that your youth is renewed like the eagles.

The Lord works vindication and justice for all who are oppressed. He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the people of Israel. The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always accuse nor will He keep His anger forever. He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His steadfast love toward those who fear Him; As far a s the east is from the west, so far He removes our transgressions from us.

As a father has compassion for his children, so the Lord has compassion for those who fear Him. For He knows how we were made, He remembers that we are dust.

As for mortals, their days are like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field, for the wind passes over it and it is gone and its place knows it no more but the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him and His righteousness to children’s children, to those who keep His covenant and remember to do His Commandments.

The Lord has established His throne in the heavens and His kingdom rules over all. Bless the Lord, O you His angels, you mighty ones who do His bidding, obedient to His spoken Word.

Bless the Lord, all His hosts, His ministers, that do His will.

Bless the Lord all His works, in all places of his dominion.

Store Up Your Treasures in Heaven -Image Courtesy: His Mercy Lives

Come now, you rich people, weep and wail for the miseries that are coming to you. Your riches have rotted and your clothes are moth eaten. Your gold and silver have rusted and their rust will be evidence against you and it will eat your flesh like fire.

You have laid up treasure for the last day. Listen. The wages of the laborers who mowed your fields which you kept back by fraud, cry out and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. You have lived on earth in luxury and in pleasure, you have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the righteous one who does not resist you.

Patience In Suffering

Be patent, therefore beloved, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious crop from the earth, being patient with it until it receives the early and late rains. You also must be patient. Strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near.

Beloved do not grumble against one another, so that you may not be judged. See, the Judge is standing at the doors. As an example of suffering and patience, beloved take the Prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. Indeed we call blessed those who showed endurance. You have heard of the endurance of Job and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.

Above all, my beloved, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any oath but let your ‘Yes’ be yes and your ‘No’ be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.

The Prayer of Faith

Are any among you suffering? They should pray. Are any cheerful? They should sing songs of praise. Are any among you sick? They should call for the Elders of the Church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will save the sick and the Lord will raise them up and anyone who has committed sin will be forgiven.

Therefore confess your sins to one another and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective. Elijah was a human being like us and he prayed fervently that it might not rain and for three years and six months it did not rain on the eath. Then he prayed again and the heaven gave rain and the earth yielded its harvest.

My brothers and sisters, if anyone among you wanders from the Truth and is brought back by another, you should know that whoever brings back a sinner from wandering will save the sinner’s soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins. James 5
