Beware of practicing your piety before others in order to be seen by them, for then you have no reward from your Father in heaven.

So whenever you give alms (charity) do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the Synagogues and in the streets so that they may be praised by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward but when you give alms do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be done in secret and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

Whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to stand and pray in the Synagogues and at the street corners so that they may be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward but whenever you pray, go into your room, shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

Whenever you fast, do not look dismal like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so as to show others that they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward but when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face so that your fasting may be seen not by others but by your Father who is in secret and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth where moths and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:1-6, 16-21

Jesus said, “I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I loved you, you also should love one another.” John 13:34

You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy’ but I say to you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven.

For He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the righteous and unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? If you greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than others? – Be perfect therefore as your Heavenly Father is perfect. Matthew 5:43-47A, 48

Give ear to my word, O Lord, give heed to my sighing. Listen to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to You I pray. O Lord, in the morning You hear my voice, in the morning I plead my case to You and watch.

For You are not a God who delights in wickedness, evil will not sojourn with You. The boastful will not stand before Your eyes.

You hate evildoers. You destroy those who speak lies. The Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful.

I through the abundance of Your steadfast love will enter Your house, I will bow down toward Your Holy Temple in awe to You. Lead me, O Lord in Your righteousness because of my enemies, make Your way straight before me.

For their is no truth in their mouths, their hearts are destruction, their thoughts are open graves. They flatter with their tongues. Make them bear their guilt O God, let them fall by their own counsels because of their many transgressions cast them out, for they have rebelled against You.

Let all who take refuge in You rejoice, let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them so that those who love Your name may exult in You.

For You bless the righteous O Lord, You cover them with favor as with a shield.  Psalm 5
