U.S. Marines Celebrate 235 Years of Distinguished Service
Today the U.S. Marine Corp celebrates their 235th anniversary of distinguished military service to our nation—God Bless Our Marines, past and present for their unselfish and honorable service and sacrifice.
Corporal Michael W. Quellette, was awarded the Navy Cross posthumously today for displaying exceptional valor in combat, by leading his Marines in a gun battle in Afghanistan, after suffering mortal injuries.
Quellette was the Squad Leader in 1st Platoon, Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 8th Marines from Camp Lejeune, NC—On the 22 March, 2009 Quellette unit was in their 5th month on the ground in the Now Zad district in northern Helmend Province.
Almost two hours into a foot patrol which began in the morning at Forward Operating Base A.P. Hill, Quellette was wounded by the blast from an improvised explosive device that detonated under his feet.
