The Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword,
piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; It is able to judge the thoughts
and intentions of the heart.  –Hebrews 4:12   Image Courtesy: Delali@Twitter

All (Holy) Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching,
for reproof, for correction and for training in righteousness.  –2 Timothy 3:16

The Rest That God Promised

While the promise of entering His rest is still open, let us take care that none of you should

seem to have failed to reach it. For indeed The Good News came to us just as to them but the

message they heard did not benefit them because they were not united by faith with those who

listened, For we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said:

“As in my anger I swore,

They shall not enter my rest.” (See: Psalm 95:11; Hebrews 3:11)

Though His works were finished at the foundation of the world. For in one place it speaks

about the seventh day day as follows, “God rested on the seventh day from all His works.”

(See:Genesis 2:2; Exodus 20:11; Exodus 31:17) Again in this place it says, “They shall not enter

my rest.” Since therefore it remains open for some to enter it and those who formally received

The Good News failed to enter because of disobedience, again He sets a certain day — “Today” —

saying through David much later, in the words already quoted:

“Today, if you hear His voice,

do not harden your hearts.”  (See: Psalm 95:7-8)

For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not speak later about another day. So then, a

Sabbath rest still remains for the people of God; For those who enter God’s rest also cease from

their labors as God did from His. Let us therefore make every effort to enter that rest, so that

no one may fall through such disobedience as theirs.

Indeed the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until

it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of

the heart. Before Him (God) no creature is hidden but all are naked and laid bare to they eyes

of the One to whom we (all) must render an account. (Psalm 33:13-14; Psalm 90:8;

Psalm 139:11-12; Romans 14:12; 2 Corinthians 5:10)

Jesus, The Great High Priest

Since then, we have a Great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of

God, let us hold fast to our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who is unable to

sympathize with our weaknesses but we have One who in every respect has been tested as we

are, yet without sin. Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we

may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.  –Hebrews 4:1-16

Who is is that conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God!
This is the One who came by Water and Blood, Jesus Christ,
not with Water only but with Water and the Blood!  –1 John 5:5-6

Testimony Concerning Jesus!

The (Holy) Spirit is the One that testifies, for the Spirit is the Truth!

There are Three that testify:

The Spirit and the Water and the Blood and these three agree. If we receive human testimony,

the testimony of God is greater; For this is the testimony of God that He has testified to His

Son. Those who Believe in the Son of God have the testimony in their hearts. Those who do not

believe in God have made Him a liar by not believing in the testimony that God has given

concerning His Son and this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life and this life is in His Son.

Whoever has the Son has life; Whoever does not have the Son does not have life.

I write these things to you who believe in the Name (Jesus) of the Son of God,

so that you may know that you have eternal life.  –1 John 5:6-13

“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for He has looked favorably on His people and redeemed them.
He has raised up a Mighty Savior for us in the House of His servant David!” – Luke 1:68-69

Zechariah (Father of John the Baptist) Prophecy

Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke this prophecy:

“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for He has looked favorably on His people and redeemed

them. He has raised up a Mighty Savior for us in the House of His servant David, as He spoke

through the mouth of His Holy Prophets from of old, (See: Jeremiah 23:5-6; Daniel 9:21-24)

that we would be saved from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us. Thus He has

shown the mercy promised to our ancestors and has remembered His Holy Covenant, the oath

that he swore to our ancestor Abraham to grant us that we, being rescued from the hands of

our enemies might serve Him without fear, in Holiness and Righteousness before Him all our

days and you, child, will be called the Prophet of the Most High; For you will go before the Lord

to prepare His ways, to give knowledge of salvation to His people by the forgiveness of their

sins. By the tender mercy of our God, the dawn from on high will break upon us, to give light to

those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

Luke 1:67-79

Make me to know Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths.  –Psalm 25:4

Prayer of David for Guidance and Delivery

To You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.

O my God, in You I trust;

Do not let me be put to shame;

Do not let my enemies exult over me.

Do not let those who wait for You be put to shame;

Let them be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.

Make me to know Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths.

Lead me in Your truth and teach me,

for You are the God of my salvation;

For You I wait all day long.

Be mindful of Your mercy, O Lord and of Your steadfast love,

for they have been from of old.

Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions;

According to Your steadfast love remember me,

for Your goodness’ sake, O Lord!

Good and upright is the Lord;

Therefore He instructs sinners in the way.

He leads the humble in what is right

and teaches the humble His way.

All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness,

for those who keep His Covenant and His Decrees.

For Your name’s sake, O Lord,

pardon my guilt, for it is great.

Who are they that fear the Lord?

He will teach them the way that they should choose.

They will abide in prosperity

and their children shall possess the land.

The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear Him

and He make His Covenant known to them.

My eyes are ever toward the Lord,

for He will pluck my feet out of the net.

Turn to me and be gracious to me,

for I am lonely and afflicted.

Relieve the troubles of my heart

and bring me out of my distress.

Consider my affliction and my trouble

and forgive all my sins.

Consider how many are my foes

and with what violent hatred they hate me.

O guard my life and deliver me;

do not let me be put to shame, for I take refuge in You.

My integrity and uprightness preserve me,

for I wait for You.

Redeem Israel, O God

out of all its troubles.  –Psalm 25:1-22

Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus, Visits Elizabeth

In those days Mary set out and went with haste to a Judean town in the hill country, where she

entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting,

the child leaped in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaimed with a

loud cry, “Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb.”

“Why has this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me? For as soon as I heard

the sound of your greeting, the child in my womb leaped for joy and blessed is she who believed

that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord.”  –Luke 1:39-45

Then Mary said, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; Let it be with me according to your word.”
Then the Angel (Gabriel) departed from her.  –Luke 1:38  Image Courtesy: EWTN

The Birth of Jesus Foretold

In the sixth month the Angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a

Virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the House of David. The Virgin’s name

was Mary and he (Gabriel) came to her and said, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with

you,” she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.

The Angel (Gabriel) said to her, “Do not be afraid Mary, for you have found favor with Hod and

now you will conceive in your womb and bear a Son and you will name Him Jesus. He will be

great and will be called the Son of the Most High and the Lord God will give to Him the throne

of His ancestor David. He will reign over the House of Jacob forever and of His Kingdom there

will be no end.”

Mary said to the Angel, “How can this be, since I am a Virgin? The Angel said to her, “The Holy

Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the

Child to be born will be Holy; He will be called Son of God and now, your relative Elizabeth in

her old age has also conceived a son and this is the sixth month for her who was said to be

barren. For nothing will be impossible with God.”

Then Mary said, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; Let it be with me according to your word.”

Then the Angel departed from her.  –Luke 1:26-38

Christmas is Fast Approaching! Are You Ready?  -Image Courtesy: Respect Life Los Angeles

(EWTN) Why Is Christmas Celebrated?

The Church celebrates the ‘marvelous works of God’ through public worship or liturgy

commemorating the great events in Salvation history. The Nativity of Our Lord celebrates the

point in history when the Son of God became Man for our Salvation — an act of loving

obedience to the Father and saving love for us, that will culminate on the Cross.

Imitating Christ Jesus Humility

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit but in humility regard others as better than

yourselves. Let each of you look not to your own interests but to the interests of others. Let the

same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who though He was in the form of God, did not

regard equality with God as something to be exploited but emptied Himself, taking the form of

a slave, being born in human likeness and being found in human form (Luke 2:8-20)

He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death — even death on a Cross.

Therefore God also highly exalted Him and gave Him the name that is above every name, so

that at the name of Jesus, every knee should bend, in Heaven and on earth and under the earth

and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the Glory of God the Father!

Philippians 2:3-11

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you.
Peace within your walls and security within your towers..” –Psalm 122:6-7

Psalm of David: Joy in the House and City of God

I was glad when they said to me,

“Let us go to the House of the Lord!”

Our feet are standing

within your gates, O Jerusalem.

Jerusalem — built as a city

that is bound firmly together.

There ascended the tribes, the tribes of God,

testimony to Israel, to give thanks

to the name of the Lord!  (Tehillim — Psalm 122:4)

For there the thrones for judgment were set up,

the thrones of the House of David.

Request the welfare of Jerusalem;

“May those who love you enjoy tranquility. (Tehillim — Psalm 122:6)

Peace be within your walls

and security within your towers.”

For the sake of my brethren and companions,

I shall now speak of peace in you. (Tehillim — Psalm 122:8)

For the sake of the House of the Lord our God,

I will seek your good.  –Psalm 122:1-9

The Foolishness of Nature Worship  -Cartoon Image Courtesy: Townhall.com

For all people who were ignorant of God were foolish by nature

and they were unable from the good things that are seen to know the One (God) who exists,

nor did they recognize the artisan while paying heed to his works

but they supposed that either fire or wind or swift air

or the circle of the stars, or turbulent water

or the luminaries of heaven were the gods that rule the world.

If through delight in the beauty of these things people assumed them to be gods,

let them know how much better than these is the Lord,

for the Author of beauty created them.  (See: Genesis 1:27)

If people were amazed at their power and working,

let them perceive from them

how much more powerful is the One (God) who formed them.  (See: Genesis 1:1John 1:1-4)

For from the greatness and beauty of created things

comes a corresponding perception of the Creator.

Yet these people are little to be blamed

for perhaps they go astray

while seeking God and desiring to find Him.

For while they live among His works, they keep searching

and they trust in what they see

because the things that are seen are beautiful.

Yet again, not even they are to be excised;

For if they had power to know so much

that they could investigate the world

how did they fail to find sooner the Lord of these things?

The Foolishness of Idolatry

Miserable with their hopes set on dead things, are those who give the name ‘gods’ to the

works of human hands, gold and silver fashioned with skill

and likeness of animals, or a useless stone, the work of an ancient hand.

A skilled woodcutter may saw down a tree easy to handle

and skillfully strip off all its bark

and then with pleasing workmanship

make a vessel that serves life’s needs

and burn the cast-off pieces of his work

to prepare his food and eat his fill

but a cast-off piece from among them, useful for nothing,

a stick crooked and full of knots,

he takes and carves with care in his leisure

and shapes it with skill gained in idleness;

he forms it in the likeness of a human being

or makes it like some worthless animal,

giving it a coat of red paint and coloring its surface red

and covering every blemish in it with paint;

Then he makes a suitable niche for it

and sets it in the wall and fastens it there with iron.

He takes thought for it, so that it may not fall

because he knows that it cannot help itself

for it is only an image and has need of help.

When he prays about possessions, his marriage and children,

he is not ashamed to address a lifeless thing.

For health he appeals to a thing that is weak;

For life he prays to a thing that is dead;

For aid he entreats a thing that is utterly inexperienced;

For a prosperous journey, a thing that cannot take a step;

For money-making, work and success with his hands

he asks strength of a thing who hands have no strength.  –Wisdom 13:1-19

A Harvest of Joy

The Lord has done great things for us; We are joyful! (Psalm 126:3)

When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion

we were like those who dream.

Then our mouth was filled with laughter

and our tongue with shouts of joy;

The Lord has done great things for us; We are joyful! (Psalm 126:3)

Then it was said among the nations,

“The Lord has done great things for them.”

The Lord has done great things for us

and we rejoiced!

The Lord has done great things for us; We are joyful! (Psalm 126:3)

Restore our fortunes, O Lord,

like the watercourses in the Negeb (or Negev).

May those who sow in tears

reap with shouts of joy!

The Lord has done great things for us; We are joyful! (Psalm 126:3)

Those who go out weeping,

bearing the seed of sowing

shall come home with shout of joy,

carrying their sheaves.  –Psalm 126:1-6

The Lord has done great things for us; We are joyful! (Psalm 126:3)
