To ALL who received Him (Jesus) who believed in His name, He gave power to become children of God; The Word became Flesh and lived among us and we have seen His glory as of a Father’s only Son, full of Grace and Truth!  –John 1:12;14  -Image Courtesy: Franciscan Missionaries of the Eternal Word

Christ Our Advocate

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin but if anyone does

sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous and He is the atoning

sacrifice for our sins and not for ours only but also the sins of the whole world!

Now by this we may be sure that we know Him, if we obey His Commandments. Whoever says,

“I have come to know Him” but does not obey His Commandments, is a liar and in such a

person the truth does not exist but whoever obeys His Word, truly in this person the love of

God has reached perfection. By this we may be sure that we are in Him: Whoever says, “I abide

in Him,” ought to walk as He walked.

A New Commandment

Beloved, I am writing you no new Commandment but an old Commandment that you have had

from the beginning; the old Commandment is the Word you have heard. Yet I am writing you a

new Commandment that is true in Him and in you because the darkness is passing away and

the true light is already shining. Whoever says, “I am the light,” while hating a brother or

sister, is still in darkness. Whoever loves a brother or sister lives in the light and in such a

person there is no cause for stumbling but whoever hates another Believer is in the darkness,

walks in the darkness and does not know the way to go because the

darkness has brought blindness.

I am writing to you little children

because your sins are forgiven on account of His name.

I am writing to you fathers

because you know Him who is from the beginning.

I am writing to you, young people

because you have conquered the evil one.

I write to you, children

because you know the Father.

I write to you, fathers

because you know Him who is from the beginning.

I write to you, young people

because you are strong

and the Word of God abides in you

and you have overcome the evil one.

Do not love the world or the things in the world. The love of the Father is not in those who love

the world; For all that is in the world — the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, the pride

in riches — comes not from the Father but from the world and the world and its desire are

passing away (See also: James 4:14) but those who do the Will of God live forever!

Warning Against Antichrists

Children, it is the last hour! As you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many

antichrists have come. From this we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us but

they did not belong to us; for if they belonged to us, they would have remained with us but by

going out they made it plain that none of them belongs to us.

You have been anointed by the Holy One and all of you have knowledge. I write to you not

because you do not know the Truth but because you know it and you know that no lie comes

from the Truth. Who is the liar but the one that denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the

antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son has the

Father; Everyone who confesses the Son has the Father also. Let what you heard from the

beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you will abide

in the Son and in the Father and this is what He has promised us, Eternal Life!

I write these things to you concerning those who would deceive you. As for you, the anointing

that you received from Him abides in you and so you do not need anyone to teach you but as

His anointing teaches you about all things and is true and is not a lie and just as it has taught

you, abide in Him.

Now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He is revealed we may have confidence and not

be put to shame before Him at His coming.

Children of God

If you know that He is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who does right

has been born of Him.  1 John 2:1-29

The grass withers, the flower fades but the Word of our God will stand forever! –Isaiah 40:8

Raise your voice and tell The Good News;
Behold the Lord GOD comes with power! –Cf. Isaiah 40:9-10

I am the Lord and there is no other;

besides Me there is no god.

I arm you, though you do not know Me,

so that they may know, from the rising of the sun

and from the west, that there is no one besides Me;

I am the Lord and there is no other.

I form light and create darkness;

I make weal and create woe;

I the Lord do all these things.

Shower, O heavens from above

and let the skies rain down righteousness;

Let the earth open, that salvation may spring up

and let it cause righteousness to sprout up also;

I the Lord have created it.

Woe to you who strive with your Maker,

earthen vessels with the potter!

Does the clay say to the one who fashions it,

“What are you making?” or, “Your work has no handles?”

Woe to anyone who says to a father, “What are you begetting?”

Or to a woman, “With what are you in labor?”

Thus says the Lord, the Holy One of Israel and its Maker:

Will you question Me about My children or command me concerning the work of My hands?

I made the earth and created humankind upon it;

It was My hands that stretched out the heavens

and I commanded all their host.

I have aroused Cyrus (Note: 200 yrs before Cyrus was born,

Isaiah predicted the king’s reign, mentioning him by name) in righteousness

and I will make his paths straight;

he shall build My city

and set My exiles free,

not for price or reward,

says the Lord of hosts.

Thus says the Lord:

The wealth of Egypt and the merchandise of Ethiopia

and the Sabeans, tall of stature

shall come over to you and be yours,

they shall follow you;

They shall come over in chains and bow down to you.

They will make supplication to you saying,

“God is with you alone and there is no other;

there is no god besides Him.”

Truly, You are a God who hides Himself,

O God of Israel, the Savior!

All of them are put to shame and confounded,

the makers of idols go in confusion together

but Israel is saved by the Lord

with everlasting salvation!

You shall not be put to shame or confounded

to all eternity.

For thus says the Lord,

who created the heavens

He is God,

who formed the earth and made it

(He established it; He did not create chaos,

He formed it to be inhabited!)

I am the Lord and there is no other.

I did not speak in secret,

in a land of darkness;

I did not say to the offspring of Jacob,

“Seek Me in chaos.”

I the Lord speak the Truth,

I declare what is right.

Idols Cannot Save Babylon

Assemble yourselves and come together,

draw near, you survivors of the nations!

They have no knowledge —

those who carry about their wooden idols

and keep on praying to a god

that cannot save.

Declare and present your case;

Let them take counsel together!

Who told this long ago?

Who declared it of old?

There is no other god besides Me,

a righteous God and a Savior;

There is no one besides Me!

Turn to Me and be saved,

all the ends of the earth!

For I am God and there is no other.

By Myself I have sworn,

from My mouth has gone forth in righteousness

a word that shall not return:

“To me every knee shall bow

and every tongue shall swear.” (See: Philippians 2:10-11)

Only in the Lord, it shall be said of Me,

are righteousness and strength;

All who were incensed against Him

shall come to Him and be ashamed.

In the Lord all of the offspring of Israel

shall triumph in glory.  –Isaiah 45:5-25

Magnify (Praise) the Lord with me and let us exult (be ecstatic of) His name together!  –Psalm 34:3

David’s Praise For Deliverance From Trouble

I will bless the Lord at all times:

His praise shall continually be in my mouth.

My soul makes it boast in the Lord;

Let the humble hear and be glad.

O Magnify the Lord with me

and let us exult His name together!

I sought the Lord and He answered me

and delivered me from all my fears. (See also: Philippians 4:6)

Look to Him and be radiant;

So your faces shall never be ashamed.

The poor soul cried and was heard by the Lord

and was saved from every trouble.

The Angel of the Lord encamps

around those who fear Him and delivers them.

O taste and see that the Lord is good;

Happy are those who take refuge in Him.

O fear the Lord, you Holy ones,

for those who fear Him have no want.

The young lions suffer want and hunger

but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.

Come, O children, listen to me;

I will teach you the fear of the Lord.

Which of you desires life

and covets many days to enjoy good?

Keep your tongue from evil

and your lips from speaking deceit.

Depart from evil and do good;

seek peace and pursue it.

The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous

and His ears are open to their cry.

The face of the Lord is against evildoers,

to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears

and rescues them from all their troubles.

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted

and saves the crushed in spirit.

Many are the afflictions of the righteous

but the Lord rescues them from them all.

He keeps all their bones

not one of them will be broken.

Evil brings death to the wicked

and those who hate the righteous will be condemned.

The Lord redeems the life of His servants;

None of those who take refuge in Him will be condemned.  –Psalm 34:1-22

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because He has anointed me to bring glad tidings (Good News)
to the poor. (See: Isaiah 61:1; Luke 4:18)  Image Courtesy: Archbishop Jose Gomez

Vigilance

Concerning the times and the seasons, Brothers and Sisters, you do not need to have anything

written to you. For you yourselves know very well that The Day of the Lord will come like a

thief in the night. When they (one) say, ‘There is peace and security,’ then sudden destruction

will come upon them, as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman and there will be no escape!

You beloved are not in darkness, for that day to surprise you like a thief; For you are all

children of light and children of the day; We are not of the night or of darkness. So then let us

not fall asleep as others do but let us keep awake and be sober, for those who sleep, sleep at

night and those who are drunk get drunk at night but since we belong to the day, let us be sober

and put on the breastplate of faith and love and for a helmet the hope of salvation. For God has

destined us not for wrath but for obtaining salvation through Our Lord Jesus Christ, who died

for us, so that whether we are awake or sleep, we may live with Him. Therefore encourage one

another and build up each other, as indeed you are doing.

Church Order, Final Exhortation

We appeal to you Brothers and Sisters, to respect those who labor among you and have charge

of you in the Lord and admonish you: Esteem them very highly in love because of their work.

Be a peace among yourselves and we urge you, beloved, to admonish the idlers, encourage the

fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with all of them. See that none of you repays evil for evil

but always seek to do good to one another and to all. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give

thanks in all circumstances; For this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench

the Spirit. Do not despise the word of the Prophets but test everything; Hold fast to what is

good; Abstain from every form of evil.

Concluding Prayer & Benediction

May the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely and may your spirit, soul and body be kept

sound and blameless at the Coming of Our Lord Jesus Christ. The One who calls you is faithful

and He will do this.

Beloved, pray for us! Greet all the Brothers and Sisters with a Holy kiss (embrace:

See: Romans 16:16; 1 Corinthians 16:20; 2 Corinthians 13:12; 1 Peter 5:14  was a greeting of

respect and affection) I solemnly command you by the Lord that this letter be read

to all of them.

The grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.  –1 Thessalonians 5:1-28

Then they will see ‘The Son of Man coming in a cloud’ with power and great glory — Stand up and raise your heads because your redemption is drawing near.  –Luke 21:27-28B
Image Courtesy: Franciscan Missionaries of the Eternal Word

Grace, mercy and peace will be with us from God the Father and from Jesus Christ,

the Father’s Son, in truth and love!

Truth and Love

I was overjoyed to find some of your children walking in the Truth, just as we have been

commanded by the Father but now dear Lady, I ask you, not as though I were writing you a new

commandment but one we have had from the beginning, let us love one another (See: Leviticus

19:18; John 15:12; Romans 12:10; Romans 13:8; 1 Peter 4:8) and this is love, that we walk

according to His Commandments; this is the Commandment just as you have heard it from the

beginning — you must walk in it.

Many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess that Jesus Christ has

come in the flesh; any such person is the deceiver and the Antichrist! Be on your guard, so that

you do not lose what we have worked for but may receive a full reward. Everyone who does not

abide in the Teaching of Christ but goes beyond it does not have God; whoever abides in the

Teaching has both the Father and the Son. Do not receive into the house or welcome anyone

who comes to you and does not bring this teaching, for to welcome is to participate in the evil

deeds of such a person.  –2 John 4-11

The Coming of the Kingdom

Once Jesus was asked by the Pharisees when the Kingdom of God was coming?

Jesus answered, “The Kingdom of God is not coming with things that can be observed; Nor will

they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There it is!’ For, in-fact, the Kingdom of God is among you.”

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “The days are coming when you will long to see one of the days

of the Son of Man and you will not see it. They will say to you, ‘Look there!’ or ‘Look here!’ Do

not go, do not set off in pursuit. For as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side

to the other, so will the Son of Man be in His day. First He must endure much suffering and be

rejected by this generation. Just as it was in the days of Noah, so too it will be in the days of the

Son of Man. They will be eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage until the Noah

entered the ark and the flood came and destroyed all of them. (Genesis 6-11) Likewise, just as it

was in the days of Lot: They were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building

but on the day that Lot left Sodom, it rained fire and sulfur from Heaven and destroyed all of

them. (Genesis 19:1-25) It will be like that on the day that the Son of Man is revealed. On that

day, anyone on the housetop who has belongings in the house must not come down to take

them away and likewise anyone in the field must not turn back. Remember Lot’s wife. (Genesis

19:26) Those who try to make their life secure will lose it but those who lose their life will keep

it. I tel, you, on that night there will be two in bed, one will be taken and the other left. There

will be two women grinding meal together, one will be taken and the other left.” Then they

(disciples) asked Jesus, ‘Where Lord?’ Jesus said to them, “Where the corpse is, there the

vultures will gather.”  –Luke17:20-37

The Widows Offering

Jesus looked up and saw rich people putting their gifts into the treasury; He also saw a poor

widow put in two small copper coins. Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in

more than all of them; For all of them contributed out of their abundance but she out of her

poverty has put in all she had to live on.”

The Destruction of The Temple Foretold

When some were speaking about the Temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and

gifts dedicated to God, Jesus said, “As for these things that you see, the days will come when

not one stone will be left upon another; all will be thrown down.”

Signs and Persecution

They asked Jesus, ‘Teacher, when will this be and what will be the sign that this is about to take

place?’ Jesus said, “Beware that you are not led astray; for many will come in My name and say,

‘I am he’ and ‘The time is near!’ Do not go after them.

When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified; for these things must take place

first but the end will not follow immediately.” Then Jesus said to them, “Nation will rise against

nation and kingdom against kingdom; there will be great earthquakes and in various places

famines and plagues; there will be dreadful portents (a sign or warning that something

momentous or calamitous is likely to happen) and great signs from heaven.

Before all this occurs, they will arrest you and persecute you; they will hand you over to

Synagogues and prisons and you will be brought before kings and governors because of My

name. This will give you an opportunity to testify. So make up your minds not to prepare your

defense in advance; For I will give you words and a wisdom that none of your opponents will be

able to withstand or contradict. You will be betrayed even by your parents and brothers,

relatives and friends; they will put some of you to death. You will be hated by all because of My

name but not a hair of your head will perish. By your endurance you will gain your souls.”

The Destruction of Jerusalem Foretold

“When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know its desolation has come near.

Then those in Judea must flee to the mountains and those inside the city must leave it and

those out of the country must not enter it; For these days of vengeance as a fulfillment of all

that is written. Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing infants in those

days! For there will be great distress on the earth and wrath against this people; They will fall

by the edge of the sword and be taken away as captives among all nations; Jerusalem will be

trampled on by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.”

The Coming of the Son of Man

“There will be signs in the sun, the moon, the stars and on the earth distress among nations

confused by the roaring sea and the waves. People will faint from fear and foreboding (a feeling

that something bad will happen) of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the

heavens will be shaken. Then they will see ‘The Son of Man coming in a cloud’ with power and

great glory. Now when these things begin to take place, stand up and raise your heads because

your redemption is drawing near.”

The Lesson of the Fig Tree

Then Jesus told them a parable: “Look at the fig tree and all the trees; As soon as they sprout

leaves you can see for yourselves and know the Summer is already near. So also, when you see

these things taking place, you know that the Kingdom of God is near. Truly I tel, you, this

generation will not pass away until all things have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away

but My Words will not pass away.”

Exhortation to Watch

“Be on guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and

the worries of this life and that day does not catch you unexpectedly, like a trap. For it will

come upon all who live on the face of the whole earth. Be alert at all times, praying that you

may have strength to escape all these things that will take place and to stand before

the Son of Man.”

Every day Jesus was teaching in the Temple and at night He would go out and spend the night

on the Mount of Olives as it was called and all the people would get up early in the morning to

listen to Him in the Temple.  –Luke 21:1-38

For the wages of sin is death but the Free Gift of God
is Eternal Life in Christ Jesus Our Lord. –Romans 6:23 (NRSVCE)

The Two Ways

Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked or take the path that sinner tread

or sit in the seat of scoffers but their delight is in the Law of the Lord and on His Law they

meditate day and night.

They are like trees planted by the streams of water which yield their fruit in its season and their

leaves do not wither. In all they do, they prosper.

The wicked are not so but are like chaff that the wind drives away.

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,

nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous

but the way of the wicked will perish. –Psalm 1:1-6

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit but in humility regard others as better than yourselves.
Let each of you look not to your own interests but to the interests of others.
Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus.  –Philippians 2:3-5

Imitating Christ’s Humility

If then there is any encouragement in Christ, any consolation from love, any sharing in the

Spirit, any compassion and sympathy, make my JOY complete: Be of the same mind, having the

same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit

but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. Let each of you look not to your own

interests but to the interests of others. Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus,

who, though He was in the form of God did not regard equality with God as something to be

exploited but emptied Himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. Being

found in human form, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death — even

death on a Cross.

Therefore God also highly exalted Him and gave Him the name that is above every name, so

that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in Heaven and on earth and under the earth

and every tongue should confess that Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father!

Philippians 2:1-11

Sin, Death and God’s Gift of Eternal Life

The person who sins shall die. A child shall not suffer for the iniquity of a parent, nor a parent

suffer for the iniquity of a child; the righteousness of the righteous shall be his own and the

wickedness of the wicked shall be his own.

If the wicked turn away from all their sins that they have committed and keep My Statutes and

do what is lawful and right, they shall surely live; they shall not die. None of the transgressions

that they have committed shall be remembered against them; for the righteousness that they

have done they shall live. Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, says the Lord God and

not rather that they should turn from their ways and live? When the righteous turn away from

their righteousness and commit iniquity and do the same abominable things that the wicked

do, shall they live? None of the righteous deeds that they have done shall be remembered; for

the treachery of which they are guilty and the sin they have committed, they shall die.

Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is unfair.’ Hear now, O House of Israel: Is My way unfair? Is it

not your ways that are unfair? When the righteous turn away from their righteousness and

commit iniquity, they shall die for it; for the iniquity that they have committed they shall die.

Again, when the wicked turn away from wickedness they have committed and do what is lawful

and right they shall save their life because they considered and turned away from all the

transgressions that they had committed, they shall surely live; they shall not die. Yet the House

of Israel says, ‘The way of the Lord is unfair.’ O House of Israel, are My ways unfair? Is it not

your ways that are unfair?

Therefore I will judge you, O House of Israel, all of you according to your ways, says the Lord

God. Repent and turn from all your transgressions; otherwise iniquity will be your ruin. Cast

away from you all the transgressions that you have committed against Me and get yourselves a

new heart and a new spirit! Why will you die, O House of Israel? For I have no pleasure in the

death of anyone says the Lord God. Turn, then and live.  –Ezekiel 18:20-32

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI 9/11 Message to the Church in the United States

“Israel Remembers the Victims of 11 September Terrorist Attacks – Jerusalem’s Living Memorial Plaza is a symbol of hope and resilience in the face of hate and evil. Today and every day Israel stands in solidarity with its allies and with those who lost their loved ones on 9/11”

(LI Catholic) From the Vatican, September, 2011

To My Venerable Brother
The Most Reverend Timothy M. Dolan
President
United States Conference of Catholic Bishops

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!

On this day my thoughts turn to the somber events of 11 September, 2001 when so many innocent lives were lost in the brutal assault on the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center and the further attacks in Washington, DC and Pennsylvania. I join you in commending the thousands of victims to the infinite mercy of Almighty God and in asking our Heavely Father to continue to console those who mourn the loss of loved ones.

The tragedy of that day is compounded by the perpetrator’s claim to be acting in God’s name. Once again, it must be unequivocally stated that no circumstances can ever justify acts of terrorism. Every human life is precious in God’s sight and no effort should be spared in the attempt to promote throughout the world a genuine respect for the inalienable rights and dignity of individuals and peoples everywhere.

The American people are to be commended for the courage and generosity that they showed in the rescue operations and for their resilience in moving forward with hope and confidence. It is my fervent prayer that a firm commitment to justice and a global culture of solidarity will help rid the world of the grievances that so often give rise to acts of violence and will create the conditions for greater peace and prosperity, offering a brighter and more secure future.

With these sentiments, I extend my most affectionate greetings to you, your brother Bishops and all those entrusted to your pastoral care and I gladly impart my Apostolic Blessing as a pledge of peace and serenity in the Lord.

What the Holy Scriptures Teach About the Dangers of the Last Days

There will be terrifying (distressing) times in the Last Days. People will be self-centered (lovers

of themselves) and lovers of money, proud, haughty, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful,

irreligious, callous, implacable, slanderous, licentious, brutal, hating what is good, traitors,

reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, as they make a pretense of

religion but dent its power. Avoid Them!  –2 Timothy 3:1-5

God’s Wrath Against Sinful Humanity

For the wrath of God is revealed from Heaven against all ungodliness and wickedness of those

who by their wickedness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them

because God has shown it to them. Ever since the creation of the world His eternal power and

divine nature, invisible though they are, have been understood and seen through the things He

has made. So they are without excuse, for though they knew God, they did not honor Him as

God or give thanks to Him but they became futile in their thinking and their senseless minds

were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools and they exchanged the glory of the

immortal God for images resembling a mortal human being or birds or four-footed animals

or reptiles.

Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the degrading of their

bodies among themselves because they exchanged the truth about God for a Lie and worshiped

and served the creature (Satan) rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever!

Since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind and to

things that should not be done. They were filled with every kind of wickedness, evil,

covetousness, malice. Full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, craftiness, they are gossips,

slanderers, God-haters, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, rebellious toward

parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. They know God’s decree, that those who practice

such things deserve to die – yet they not only do them but even applaud others who practice

them.  –Romans 1:18-25; 28-32

The Greatness and the Goodness of God

Praise of David

I will extol You, my God and King and bless Your name forever and ever!

Every day I will bless You and praise Your name forever and ever!

Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised; His greatness is unsearchable!

One generation shall laud Your works to another and shall declare Your mighty acts. On the

glorious splendor of Your majesty and on Your wondrous works, I will mediate. The might of

Your awesome deeds shall be proclaimed and I will declare Your greatness!

They shall celebrate the fame of Your abundant goodness and shall sing aloud of Your

righteousness. The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast

love. The Lord is good to all and His compassion is over all that He has made.

All Your works shall give Thanks to You, O Lord and all Your faithful shall bless You! They shall

speak of the glory of Your Kingdom and tell of Your power, to make known to all people Your

mighty deeds and the glorious splendor of Your Kingdom.

Your Kingdom is an everlasting Kingdom and Your dominion endures throughout all

generations. The Lord is faithful in all His Words and gracious in all His deeds. The Lord

upholds all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look to You

and You give them food in due season. You open Your hand, satisfying the desire of every living

thing. The Lord is just in all His ways and kind in all His doings. The Lord is near to all who call

on Him in truth. He fulfills the desire of all who fear Him; He also hears their cry and saves

them. The Lord watches over all who love Him but all the wicked He will destroy. My mouth

will speak the praise of the Lord and all flesh will bless His Holy Name forever and ever!

Psalm 145:1-21

Life in the Spirit

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the Law of the

Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the Law of sin and death. For God has done

what the Law, weakened by the flesh, could not do: By sending His Own Son in the likeness of

sinful flesh and to deal with sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, so that the just requirement of

the Law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh but those

who live according to the Spirit, set their minds on the things of the Spirit. To set the mind on

the flesh is death but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For this reason the mind

that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law — indeed it cannot and

those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

You are not in the flesh; you are in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who

does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Him but if Christ is in you, though the

body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because f righteousness. If the Spirit of Him who

raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will give life to

your mortal bodies also through His Spirit that dwells in you.

So then, Brothers and Sisters, we are debtors not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh — for

if you live according to the flesh you will die but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the

body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. For you did not

receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear but you received a spirit of adoption. When we

cry, “Abba, Father!” it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of

God and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ — if, in fact, we suffer

with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.

Future Glory

I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the GLORY

about to be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the

Children of God, for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will but by the will of

the One who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to

decay and will obtain the Freedom of the GLORY of the Children of God. We know that the

whole creation has been groaning in labor pains until now and not only the creation but we

ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly while we wait for adoption, the

redemption of our bodies. For in hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For

who hopes for what is seen? We hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought but

that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words and God, who searches the heart,

knows what is the mind of the Spirit because the Spirit intercedes for the Saints according to

the will of God.

We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called

according to His purpose. For those whom He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed

to the image of His Son, in order that He might be the firstborn within a large family and those

whom He predestined He also called and those whom He called He also justified and those

whom He justified He glorified.

God’s Love in Christ Jesus

What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not

withhold His own Son but gave Him up for all of us, will He not with Him also give us

everything else? Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is

to condemn? It is Christ Jesus who died, yes, who was raised, who is at the right hand of God,

who indeed intercedes for us. Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship or

distress, persecution or famine, nakedness or peril or sword? As it is written,

“For your sake we are being killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep to be slaughtered.” (Psalm 44:22)

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am

convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to

come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to

separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus Our Lord!  –Romans 8:1-39
