The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because He has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives. –Luke 4:18A,B (NRSVCE)

The Benefit of Patient Confidence in God

Here I am; I delight to do Your will, O My God! (Psalm 40:7A; 8A)

I waited patient for the Lord, He inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the

desolate pit, out of the miry bog and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a

new song in my mouth, a song of praise to Our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust

in the Lord.

Here I am; I delight to do Your will, O My God! (Psalm 40:7A; 8A)

Happy are those who make the Lord their trust, who do not turn to the proud, to those who go

astray after false gods. You have multiplied, O Lord My God, Your wondrous deeds and Your

thoughts toward us; None can compare with You. Were I to proclaim and tell them, they would

be more than can be counted.

Here I am; I delight to do Your will, O My God! (Psalm 40:7A; 8A)

Sacrifice and offering You do not desire but You have given me an open ear. Brunt offering and

sin offering You have not required. Then I said, “Here I am; In the scroll of the book it is

written of me. I delight to do Your will, O My God! Your Law is within my heart.” I have told the

Glad News of deliverance in the great congregation; See, I have not restrained my lips, as you

know O Lord.

Here I am; I delight to do Your will, O My God! (Psalm 40:7A; 8A)

I have not hidden Your saving help within my heart, I have spoken of Your faithfulness and

Your salvation; I have not concealed Your steadfast love and Your faithfulness from the great

congregation.

Here I am; I delight to do Your will, O My God! (Psalm 40:7A; 8A)

Do not O Lord, withhold Your mercy from me; Let Your steadfast love and Your faithfulness

keep me safe forever. For evils have encompassed me without number; My iniquities have

overtaken me until I cannot see; They are more than my hairs of my head and my heart fails

me.

Be pleased, O Lord to deliver me; O Lord, make haste to help me. Let all those be put to shame

and confusion who seek to snatch away my life; Let those be turned back and brought to

dishonor who desire my hurt. Let those be appalled because of their shame who say to me,

“Aha, Aha!”

May all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; May those who love Your salvation say

continually, “Great is the Lord!”

As for me, I am poor and needy but the Lord takes thought for me. You are my help and my

Deliverer; Do not delay, O My God! –Psalm 40:1-17

Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near. –Isaiah 55:6 (NRSVCE)

A Song of Victory

Give thanks to the Lord for He is good, His steadfast love endures forever!

Let Israel say, “His steadfast love endures forever.”

Let the House of Aaron say, “His steadfast love endures forever.”

Let those who fear the Lord say, “His steadfast love endures forever.”

Out of my distress I called on the Lord, the Lord answered me and set me in a broad place. With the Lord on my side I do not fear. What can mortals do to me? The Lord is on my side to help me. I shall look in triumph on those who hate me. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in mortals. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in Princes.

All nations surround me; In the name of the Lord I cut them off! They surround me, surround me on every side, in the name of the Lord I cut them off! They surround me like bees, they blazed like a fire of thorns, in the name of the Lord I cut them off! I was pushed hard so that I was falling but the Lord helped me.

The Lord is my strength and my might, He has become my Salvation.

There are glad songs of victory in the tents of the righteous. “The right hand of the Lord does valiantly, the right hand of the Lord is exalted, the right hand of the Lord does valiantly.”

I shall not die but I shall live and recount the deeds of the Lord. The Lord has punished me severely but He did not give me over to death.

Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give Thanks to the Lord.

This is the gate of the Lord, the righteous shall enter through it.

I Thank You that You have answered me and have become my Salvation. The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. This is the Lord’s doing, it is marvelous in our eyes.

This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Save us, we beseech You, give us success!

Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. We bless you from the house of the Lord.

The Lord is God and He has given us light. Bind the festal procession with branches up to the horns of the alter.

You are my God and I will give Thanks to You; You are my God, I will extol You.

Give Thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever.
Psalm 118:1-29 (NRSVCE)

Behold, the Lord comes to save His people;
Blessed are those prepared to meet Him.  Image Courtesy: Franciscan Friars

Praises to God for His Mercy and Salvation

O Lord, You are My God; I will exalt You, I will praise Your name. For You have done

wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful and sure. For You have made the city a heap, the

fortified city a ruin; the palace of aliens is a city no more, it will never be rebuilt. Therefore

strong peoples will glorify You; Cities of ruthless nations will fear You. For You have been a

refuge to the poor, a refuge to the needy in their distress, a shelter from the rainstorm and a

shade from the heat. When the blast of the ruthless was like a winter rainstorm, the noise of

aliens like a heat in a dry place, You subdued the heat with the shade of clouds, the song of the

ruthless was stilled. On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich

food, a feast of well-aged wines strained clear. He will destroy on this mountain the shoud that

is cast over all peoples, the sheet that is spread over all nations; He will swallow up death

forever. Then the Lord God will wipe away the tears from all faces and the disgrace of His

people He will take away from all the earth. For the Lord has spoken. It will be said on that day,

‘Lo this is Our God; We have waited for Him so that He might save us. This is the Lord for

whom we have waited; Let us be glad and rejoice in His salvation. For the hand of the Lord will

rest on this mountain.

The Moabites (natural enemies of God and Israel) shall be trodden down in their place as straw

is trodden down in a dung-pit. Though they spread out their hands in the midst of it, as

swimmers spread out their hands to swim, their pride will be laid low despite the struggle of

their hands. The high fortifications of his walls will be brought down, laid, low, cast to the

ground, even to the dust. –Isaiah 25:1-12

Whoever keeps the Word of Christ,
the Love of God is truly perfected in him. (cf.) 1 John 2:5

Praise The Judge of the World

The Lord has revealed His vindication in the sight of the nations. (Psalm 98:2B)

O sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things.

His right hand and His Holy arm have gotten Him victory.

The Lord has revealed His vindication in the sight of the nations. (Psalm 98:2B)

The Lord has made known His victory;

He has revealed his vindication in the sight of the nations.

He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the House of Israel.

The Lord has revealed His vindication in the sight of the nations. (Psalm 98:2B)

All the ends of the earth have seen the victory of Our God.

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous songs and sing praises.

The Lord has revealed His vindication in the sight of the nations. (Psalm 98:2B)

Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre,

with the lyre and the sound of melody.

With trumpets and the sound of the horn, make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord!

Let the sea roar and all that fills it; the world and those who live in it.

Let the floods clap their hands, let the hills sing together for joy at the presence of the Lord,

for He is Coming to judge the earth.

He will judge the world with righteousness and the peoples with equity. –Psalm 98:1-9

Christ Our Advocate

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin but if anyone does

sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous and He is the atoning

sacrifice for our sins and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.

Now by this we may be sure that we know Him, if we obey His Commandments. Whoever says,

‘I have come to know him’ but does not obey His Commandments is a liar and in such a person

the truth does not exist but whoever obeys His Word, truly in this person the love of God has

reached perfection. By this we may be sure that we are in Him: Whoever says, ‘I abide in Him,’

ought to walk just as He walked.

A New Commandment

Beloved, I am writing you no new Commandment but an old Commandment that you have had

from the beginning; the old Commandment is the Word that you have heard. Yet I am writing

you a new Commandment that is true in Him and in you because the darkness is passing away

and the true light is already shining. Whoever says, ‘I am in the light,’ while hating a brother or

sister, is still in the darkness. Whoever loves a brother or sister lives in the light and in such a

person there is no cause for stumbling but whoever hates another believer is in the darkness,

walks in the darkness and does not know the way to go because the darkness has brought on

blindness.

I am writing to you, little children because your sins are forgiven on account of His name.

I am writing to you fathers, because you know Him who is from the beginning.

I am writing to you young people because you have conquered the evil one.

I write to you children because you know The Father.

I write to you fathers because you know Him who is from the beginning.

I write to you young people because you are strong and the Word of God abides in you

and you have overcome the evil one.

Do not love the world or the things in the world. The love of the Father is not in those who love

the world; For all that is in the world — the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, the pride

in riches — comes not from the Father but from the world and the world and its desires are

passing away (See: James 4:14) but those who do the will of God will live forever.

Warning Against Antichrists

Children, it is the last hour!

As you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. From this we

know that it is the last hour. They went out from us but they did not belong to us for if they had

belonged to us, they would have remained with us but by going out they made it plain that none

of them belongs to us.

You have been anointed by the Holy One and all of you have knowledge. I write to you not

because you do not know the truth but because you know it and you know that no lie comes

from the truth.

Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ. This is the antichrist, the one

who denies the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son has the Father; Everyone who

confesses the Son has the Father also. Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If

what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you will abide in the Son and in the

Father and this is what He has promised us, eternal life!

I write these things to you concerning who would deceive you. As for you, the anointing that

you received from Him abides in you and so you do not need anyone to teach you but as His

anointing teaches you about all things and is true and is not a lie and just as it has taught you,

abide in Him.

Now little children, abide in Him, so that when He is revealed we may have confidence and not

be put to shame before Him at His coming.

Children of God

If you know that He is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who does right has been born

of Him. –1 John 2:1-29

For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of God;
Each of us shall give account of himself to God. –Romans 14:10B;12

We do not live to ourselves and we do not die to ourselves. If we live to the Lord and if we die,

we die to the Lord; So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. For to this

end Christ died and lived again, so that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living. Why

do you pass judgment on your brother or sister? Or you, why do you despise your brother or

sister? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God. For it is written,

‘As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me and every tongue shall give praise (confess)

to God.’ (Isaiah 45:23) So then, each of us will be accountable to God. –Romans 14:7-12

Triumphant Song of Confidence

The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the stronghold of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?

When evildoers assail me to devour my flesh — my adversaries and foes — they shall stumble

and fall. Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; Though war rises up

against me, yet I will be confident. One thing I asked of the Lord, that I will seek after; To live in

the House of The Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in

His Temple. For He will hide me in His shelter in the day of trouble; He will conceal me under

the cover of His tent; He will set me high on a rock. Now my head is lifted up above my enemies

all around me and I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make

melody to the Lord. Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud, be gracious to me and answer me! ‘Come’

my heart says, ‘Seek His face!’ Your face Lord, do I seek. Do not hide your face from me. Do not

turn your servant away in anger, you who have been my help. Do not cast me off, do not forsake

me, O God of my salvation! If my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will take me up.

Teach me Your way O Lord and lead me on a level path because of my enemies. Do not give me

up to the will of my adversaries, for false witnesses have risen against me and they are

breathing out violence. I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the

living. Wait for the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage;

Wait for the Lord! –Psalm 27:1-14

Blessed is the man who is gracious and lends to those in need. – (cf.) Psalm 112:5

Love For One Another

Owe no one anything, except to love one another; For the one who loves another has fulfilled

The Law. The Commandments, “You shall not commit adultery; You shall not murder;

You shall not steal; You shall not covet” (Exodus 20:13-17Deuteronomy 5:17-21)

and any other Commandment are summed up in this word, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

Love does no wrong to a neighbor; Therefore, love is the fulfilling of The Law. –Romans 13:8-10

Blessings of the Righteous

Praise The Lord!

Happy are those who fear the Lord, who greatly delight in His Commandments.

Their descendants will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed.

Wealth and riches are in their houses and their righteousness endures forever.

They rise in the darkness as a light for the upright; they are gracious, merciful and righteous.

It is well with those who deal generously and lend, who conduct their affairs with justice.

For the righteous will never be moved; they will be remembered forever.

They are not afraid of evil tidings; their hearts are firm, secure in the Lord.

Their hearts are steady, they will not be afraid;

In the end they will look in triumph on their foes.

They have distributed freely, they have given to the poor;

Their righteousness endures forever; their horn is exalted in honor.

The wicked see it and are angry; they gnash their teeth and melt away; the desire of the wicked

comes to nothing. –Psalm 112:1-10

“If we had no care for the dead, we would not be in the habit of praying for them.” –St. Augustine
Image Courtesy: St. Paul Street Evangelization

The Destiny of the Righteous

The souls of the righteous are in the hands of God and no torment will ever touch them. In the

eyes of the foolish they seemed to have died and their departure was thought to be a disaster

and their going from us to be their destruction but they are at peace. For though in the sight of

others they were punished their hope is full of immortality. Having been disciplined a little,

they will receive great good because God tested them and found them worthy of Himself. Like

gold in the furnace He tried them and like a sacrificial burnt offering He accepted them. In the

time of their visitation they will shine forth and will run like sparks through the stubble. They

will govern nations and rule over peoples and the Lord will reign over them forever. Those who

trust in Him will understand truth and the faithful will abide with Him in love because grace

and mercy are upon the Holy ones and He watches over His elect.

The Destiny of the Ungodly

The ungodly will be punished as their reasoning deserves, those who disregarded the righteous

and rebelled against the Lord. For those who despise wisdom and instruction are miserable.

Their hope is vain, their labors are unprofitable and their works are useless. Their wives are

foolish and their children evil, their offspring are accursed.

On Childlessness

For blessed is the barren woman who is undefiled, who has not entered into a sinful union; She

will have fruit when God examines souls. Blessed also is the eunuch whose hands have done no

lawless deed and who has not devised wicked things against the Lord; For special favor will be

shown him for his faithfulness and a place of grat delight in the Temple of the Lord. For the

fruit of good labors is renowned and the root of understanding does not fail but children of

adulterers will not come to maturity and the offspring of an unlawful union will perish. Even if

they live long they will be held of no account and finally their old age will be without honor. If

they die young, they will have no hope and no consolation on the day of judgment. For the end

of an unrighteous generation is grievous. –Wisdom 3:1-19

God did not withhold His Own Son but gave Him up for all of us,
will He not with Him also give us everything else? –Romans 8:32 (NRSVCE)
Image Courtesy: Franciscan Missionaries of the Eternal Word

God’s Love in Christ Jesus

Friends: If God is for us, who is against us? God did not withhold His Own Son but gave Him up

for all of us, will He not with Him also give us everything else? Who will bring any charge

against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? It is Christ Jesus, who died,

yes, who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us. Who will

separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship or distress, or persecution, or famine, or

nakedness, or peril or sword? As it is written,

“For Your sake we are being killed all day long;

We are accounted as sheep to be slaughtered.” (Psalm 44:22)

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am

convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to

come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to

separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus Our Lord! –Romans 8:31B-39
