Obama: China Human Rights Is More Than Just An Issue

Wednesday, January 19th, 2011

President Hu, are you bored or is there someplace else you need to be?

While calling human rights in China a very serious issue President Obama chose his words carefully today at a Joint Press Conference between Hu Jintao and Obama this afternoon at the White House.

Human Rights Just An Issue?

China’s draconian One Child Policy under which women who have more than one child are routinely forced to abort any subsequent pregnancies (even in their 9th month) sterilizations and fines of up to one or two years annual wages are routine.

Geng He, spouse of missing Chinese Human Rights Atty Gao Zhisheng says that she hasn’t heard from her husband since he was kidnapped by Chinese Authorities and fears for his life.

Geng now living in the San Francisco Bay Area after having been granted political asylum, traveled to Washington this week, to lend her voice to the growing chorus of people that most certainly realize that human rights is much more than “just an issue” as President Obama described it.

United Nations Special Reporter Criticizes Chinese Communist Party Persecution of Falun Gong

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

Falun Gong members demonstrating in front of The White House 09 October

The recently appointed UN Special Reporter on Freedom of Religion or Belief Heiner Bielefeldt has spoke out against the mistreatment and persecution of the Falun Gong in China

A series of internal Chinese Community Party documents, some of them posted online reveal the details of a new three year, multi-billion dollar campaign targeting Falun Gong Practitioners across China

The campaigns stated goal is to “transform” 75% of all known practitioners which numbers in the tens of millions despite 11 years of brutal suppression. Specifically, the campaign calls upon security forces to go into “villages and households…to educate and conquer” Falun Gong Practitioners.

“Transformation” is a euphemism forcing practitioners to renounce Falun Gong and pledge allegiance to the Chinese Communist Party—as part of the transformation process individuals are typically subjected to physical and psychological torture, such as Sun Min of Beijing—On the 22 April, 2009 Chinese authorities abducted Ms. Sun from her home after her husband had been detained for distributing DVD’s  related to Falun Gong. Within hours of Ms. Sun being arrested, she was found dead.

Pakistan, Mensch or Schmuck—Friend or Foe?

Today the Obama Administration reiterated-support for Pakistan but are they a Mensch or Schmuck? Friend or Foe?

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Hussain Haqqani said on Sunday, the the United States and Pakistan are working closely to thwart terrorist attacks anywhere in the world but made it clear that his country would not allow foreign troops on its soil and ‘would follow its own time line for anti-terror actions’ on its side of the Afghan border.

Happy Birthday Wang Zhiwen

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

Dear Zhiwen:

Birthday celebrations often include gifts of food, cake and other material items. Yet in their most fundamental principle they are celebrations of the person himself. We celebrate the years a person has been on this planet and the contributions they have made to us as individuals and society.

Though the current period of time is difficult and the untold suffering Zhiwen has endured is hard to imagine, we believe when the human rights persecution of the Falun Gong ends in China, the religious dissidents will be recognized in a new light.
