Arizona’s New Chinese Exclusion Laws

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

In 1978 Congress passed a Joint Resolution declaring May as Asian Pacific Heritage Month which I wrote about here last year.

While it may just be coincidental, whats going on in Arizona with their new anti-immigrant laws?

Last month I wrote here that Arizona’s tough new anti-immigrant law S.B. 1070 gives Police broad new authority to demand papers or other documentation of anyone they may suspect being in the state illegally.

Arizona’s new anti-immigrant law is eerily familiar to California’s former Chinese Exclusion Act which I more fully discussed here on the 16 December, 2008

American citizens are not obligated to carry papers or government issued ID, I for one don’t have any papers or a government issued ID card in my name that identifies me as a U.S. Citizen and I was born here. How would I satisfy Arizona’s requirement to produce ID to establish my legal presence in the United States upon demand by Arizona authorities?

Subsequent to all the controversy surrounding Arizona’s new ID law, on Tuesday, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed into law H.B. 2281 which prohibits ethnic studies in Arizona’s public schools according to the bills author State Supt  of Education Tom Horne.

Derek Chang, Associate Professor of History and Asian American Studies at Cornell University writes here “Forget for a moment about academic freedom. Forget for a moment even the problem of what might constitute “resentment towards a race or class of people” or how one may define “ethnic solidarity.” My point here is merely that an ethnic studies education, one that examines especially the relationships among race, nation and power…various uses of racism, nationalism and state power–Chinese Exclusion, the Jim Crow South Japanese Internment and draconian immigration laws in Arizona—led us to stark conclusions about the nation’s past and present…”

While Gov. Brewer and other elected officials may want to wrap themselves up in the American flag attempting to spin their controversial new anti-immigrant laws which critics call separatism and racial preferences, one does not have to look very far into Arizona’s recent behavior to realize that their racial fears are leading themselves down a dark path.

Last month the Wall Street Journal reported that Arizona Dept of Education have begun telling Principal’s to remove teachers that don’t speak English well enough, heavily accented to insure that students with limited English skills have teachers that speak the language flawlessly.

Prejudice and Bigotry isn’t born it is taught, definitely a flawed character trait.

Venomous Prejudices of the Loony Political Left and Right, Fanning the Flames of the Darkest of all Evils

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Few things are as bad in the United States as Racism but both political parties are coming across as intolerant bigots, hurling racial insults and anti-immigrant intolerant rhetoric at one another, stirring up racial strife, anger and hatred in America.

Last week I wrote here 129 years ago anti-Chinese sentiment brewed in the United States and on the 06 March, 1881 California in its zeal to exclude Chinese from its borders, organized widespread protests to support anti-Chinese legislation. California subsequently enacted various laws to rid the state of Chinese immigrants, newspaper editors picking up on the anti-Chinese sentiment began to discredit the Chinese community for many things such as “unemployment…”

Sounds eerily familiar of the anti-immigrant debate were hearing today from both the Loony Political Left and the Right, both hurling their venomous prejudices towards others, fanning the flames of the darkest of all evils.

China Accused Of Harvesting Organs From Religious Dissidents

Li Dayong, Executive Director of Global Services Center for Quitting the Chinese Communist Party, speaks at a rally on Freedom Square in Washington, DC

Global Services Center for Quitting the Chinese Communist Party along with Epoch Times
sponsored a rally at Freedom Square in Washington, DC showing their support to the 71 million people that have quit from the Chinese Communist Party

China’s hidden policy of executing prisoners of the forbidden Fulan Gong and harvesting their organs for worldwide sale and distribution has been expanded to include Tibetans, House Church Christians and Human Rights Dissidents.

During a news conference on Capitol Hill, several speakers including David Matas, Atty for B’nai Brith of Canada and Ethan Gutmann of the Foundation for he Democracies said that their investigations have unearthed grisly trade in which an estimated 9,000 Fulan Gong have been executed for their corneas, lungs, livers, kidneys and skins.

Arizona Governor Signs New Anti-Immigrant Bill Into Law

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

Arizona’s tough new anti-immigrant law gives Police broad authority to demand papers or other documentation of anyone they suspect may be in the state illegally but exactly how will Police make this determination? What does American history teach when anti-immigrant sentiment previously was racing across the country and legislation enacted to exclude others from opportunity in “the land of the brave and home of the free.”

129 years ago anti-Chinese sentiment brewed in the United States and on the 06 Match, 1881 California in its zeal to exclude Chinese from its borders, organized wide spread protests to support anti-Chinese legislation.

California subsequently enacted various laws to rid the state of Chinese immigrants, newspaper editors picking up on the anti-Chinese sentiment, began to discredit the Chinese community for many things such as “unemployment.” The Police discriminated and harassed Chinese immigrants by using the slightest opportunity to arrest them.

Sounds eerily familiar to Arizona’s New Anti-Immigrant Law as anti-immigrant sentiment once again is resulting in unrealistic fears and hatred of persons based on ethnicity.

Sixty Six years ago, President Roosevelt signed into law legislation ending an unfortunate chapter in American history, which symbolized that our nation was moving towards diversity and equality of all people. How soon some forget.

Help To Free Chinese Human Rights Activist Liu XiaoBo

Chinese pro-democracy activists demonstrate in Hong Kong, holding a photo sign of
Liu XiaoBo demanding his release.

Lacking any confidence in the Obama Administration is actually serious about or that it even cares about Human Rights in China subsequent to the shocking and insensitive comments made by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that money is more important than human rights, definitely music to the ears of the Chinese Communist Party. A pro-democracy activist steps on torn photo-sign of Nobel Peace Prize Recipient Barack Obama, outside of the United States Consulate in Hong Kong

On the 08 December, 2008 Chinese Human Rights Activist Liu XiaoBo was arrested by authorities for “inciting subversion of state power” after he co-authored “Charter 08” a manifesto calling for greater freedom and democracy in China

On the day of his Trial, Liu issued the following statement: I have no enemies, My Final Statement in English here in Chinese

On Christmas Day, Liu was sentenced to 11 years in prison following a very brief two day show trial.

Via Jihad Watch—Minneapolis Adopts Sharia Friendly Loan Program

What could go wrong? Well for one thing Sharia is a program for every aspect of life. So once one sets the precedent that its good to accommodate Sharia, there is always more Sharia to accommodate—including provisions institutionalizing discrimination  against Women and non-Muslims.

Creeping Sharia is a scourge occurring across  the free world, in May, 1991 a memoranda written by Mohamed Akram, for the Sharia Council of the Muslim Brotherhood In the introductory letter Akarm, referenced a “long term plan” approved and adopted by the Council in 1987 in order to:

1. Establishing an effective an stable Islamic state led by the Muslim Brotherhood which adopts Muslim causes domestically and globally and which works to expand the observant Muslim base, aims at unifying and directing Muslim efforts, presents Islam as a civilization alternative and supports the global Islamic state;

2. In order for Islam and its movement to become “part of the homeland” in which it lives, stable in its land, rooted in the spirits and minds of its society…the movement must plan and struggle to obtain the keys and this process in carrying out the grand mission as a “Civilization Jihadist” responsibility which lies on the shoulders of Muslims;

3. The process of settlement is a “Civilization Jihadist Process” understanding that their work in America is a kind of Grand Jihad of eliminating and destroying western civilization from within and “sabotaging” its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated…It is a Muslim’s destiny to perform Jihad and work wherever he is and wherever he lands until the final hour comes and there is no escape from that destiny.

Pantano For Congress Advocate Linking Taiwan & China

Monday, March 15th, 2010

On the 04 March, an advocate for Pantano for Congress committee contacted me asking for my support and requested that I post information about the GOP Congressional Candidate from North Carolina

Before posting anything about any candidate, I have two important questions that too often go unaddressed by Congressional Candidates. My questions were not challenging nor were intended to trick the Candidate for Congress.

My two question inquiry for the North Carolina Republican Congressional Candidate Ilario Pantano were: (a) What is Pantano’s position on Taiwan? (b) Why?

This morning I received a reply to my inquiry, which stated, “I got an update from Pantano for Congress about his views on China/Taiwan. As I thought, he’s definitely in our corner on the issue. He posted his thoughts on China in the “Issues” section of his webpage. It says:

Recognize China as a Potential Threat and Act Accordingly

In my reply to the Pantano advocate I said, Huh?

Taiwan is not China—Taiwan is a free and independent country and ally of the United States.

So sad…the Pantano advocate does not know the difference between Taiwan & China. While Obama Surrogates Link Taiwan With China they do so because the Obama Administration supports Marxist totalitarianism in Taiwan otherwise known as the One China Policy which would deny freedom, human rights, civil liberties and democracy to our great American ally Taiwan.

Washington does not need another politician that does not support freedom and democracy for Taiwan and the world. I am very disappointed that the Pantano for Congress advocate did not know that Taiwan is an American ally and is not part of China. I will not endorse or otherwise support some Congressional Candidate just because they have an “R” behind their name.

Update: Since my post, Ilario Pantano has written to me asking that I either I delete this post or post his comments. In my reply to Mr. Pantano, I said “I’ll be delighted to post your comments but I am wondering why you haven’t done it yourself?”

Hi Cristy:

Please allow me to clarify my China position: I am a staunch supporter of Taiwan amd the U.S. Commitment there (including the $6 Billion Arms sale)
Furthermore, as a China watcher, I am deeply concerned by the “One China Policy” that PRC forced on Latin American trading partners inorder to secure military and economic cooperation (see PRC white Paper on Latin America 2008) As the number 2 trading partner in the region, China is using its cash reserves to build(buy) an international base of support in its efforts to alienate Taiwan and ultimately undermine the U.S.. This violation of the Monroe-Doctrine is bad for the U.S. because of the Anti-Taiwan/Anti-US sentiment that China is cultivating through direct investment in UN member nations that will hinder U.S. efforts in other regions.

If this doesn’t satisfy you than at the very least withdraw your erroneous post about me not knowing the difference between China and Taiwan. That was materially inaccurate and frankly damaging to someone like me, who is in fact a friend to the Taiwanese cause.

Thank you and Good luck in your efforts.
