News tests by Consumer Reports have found high levels of bacteria in packaged leafy greens that could indicate unsanitary conditions.
Tests conducted by an outside lab found that 39% of the samples contained levels of Coliform bacteria considered higher than acceptable by industry consultants. Some 23% of the samples contained Enterococcus bacteria.
Consumer Reports said that these bacterias do not generally make people sick but they could signal inadequate sanitation.
